Every City Needs A Hub!

CityHub Amsterdam is one of the best places I have ever stayed!!

I love the city of Amsterdam anyway (I have been 3 times previously) but I have never stayed over night so this time along with my brother, his girlfriend and my boyfriend we camped over in the city but we chose to stay at the CityHub and I just couldn’t wait to share it with you all.

I always take the DFDS Seaways Mini Cruise from Newcastle to Ijmuiden (just north of Amsterdam) and this time I got a twin inside bunk room for £70 return with transfers to and from the city which isn’t too shabby! Once in Amsterdam I had to google map my way to the CityHub…which doesn’t look too far but in actual reality it was a bitch of a trek (you can take the Tram 17 but I was not over-confident as to where to get off). It was easily a 40 minute walk from the Victoria Hotel (just outside Centraal Station) to the CityHub. Once there we were greeted by a rather handsome young man who was quite chipper which made a change…a few locals from what we’d seen were stereotypical dutch (no sense of humor and deadly serious about everything), he was very welcoming which was great especially since I was stressed out thanks to my brother being a whiny little bitch because he couldn’t just step into the hotel!

Any hoo.. we couldn’t get into our hubs until 3pm so the gent asked us if we wanted to store our luggage in their lockers (for free) until we could check in later which was great…it’s such a pain in the arse trying to navigate the streets, the cycle paths and the roads just by yourself let alone with a suitcase lagging behind you. We pootled off into town center which we found a more direct route into the city which took us half the time.

We popped back at 3pm to check in but thankfully the guy was there to help us as you check yourself in and it wasn’t easy :D. But it was great that we had the option to choose our hubs, whether we wanted top or bottom and where about we wanted to be. I stayed in Hub 41 (a top hub) and my brother stayed in Hub 49 (also a top hub), you unlock your hub with your electronic wristband (you get one when you check in) and in you pop. I must say I know they are meant to be small and convenient but I would have liked a little more room to get into my hub to store my bags and stuff. Once in it is amazing, if you download the app you can control the lights in your room (they change colour and everything!) and you can set your alarm lights, so at 8.55am my lower neon lights came on an at 9am the top bright lights came on to wake me up which is awesome! And you also have your own bluetooth to connect your hub to your phone to play your own music!! It is awesome and the sound proofing of the rooms is amazing! Can’t hear a thing from outside!

In the morning, I thought I had best test out the showers and man I was not disappointed! One of the best showers I have ever had! Better than my one at home (working on getting a better shower). Also in the showers they provide you with towels, an area to do your make up, straighteners and a hairdryer! I didn’t use them as I had my own hairdryer and straighteners but the girl in front of me had no problem using them all…at the same time! I came back half an hour later to do my make up in the ultra bright lights and they provide steadying going music of the 1940’s which was lovely even though I had Rammstein, Nickelback and Iron Maiden on in my Hub! ;D

Once ready we checked out and to be honest I was very sorry to leave! The concept of the hubs are amazing and every city should have one (small personal hubs, self-service everything including bar and they provide you with very stylish kimonos to walk around in) but there is one thing that did really bother me…considering it’s called CityHub…it’s a good 30 minute walk to Dam Square…which I would say is the main part of the city. It could do with being 10 minutes walk from Dam Square and charging £80 a night room only  (I paid £62 per night per hub) which for the quality and service that we received is 100% agreeable. It is definitely worth the money and I would go back in a heartbeat but next time, I really need to learn how to use the tram :D!

Please check them out online and if you don’t mind a good walk about, book yourself into the Hub! The new age of hospitality is upon us and this concept is definitely the way forward!! Check out my pics below!

If You Need A Little Face Treat…

Oh My God!! I feel like I’m gonna die!!

Everyone’s reaction after a long weekend on the razz! Finished work on Friday, partied all Friday, shopped all day Saturday, rocked it all night Saturday and then BANG!!! Sunday smacks you right in the face! You’re dehydrated, your neck’s recovering from Whiplash (I mean girl you can hand bang good!) and your skin feels like a grease pan. So what do you do? Well apart from laying on the couch all day under a duvet hugging Teddykins (every girl has a bear, even a Wicca Witch has a Voodoo Doll) I have a few suggestions which include Garnier’s New Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask.

I saw this posted on their Instagram Page and thought, I’ll give it a go and luckily it was reduced to only £1 (only reduced from £1.50 but hey a 50p saving is a 50p saving!). I was a bit dubious at first as I have very sensitive skin and a few allergies to anything with a sticky residue (I know I’m weird) but I gave it a go anyway. I had recently been really ill with a sickness bug and was incredibly dehydrated and felt like general shit and my skin was plain awful so I had high hopes that it will solve all my issues…well sort of!

I must say that it is rather sticky coming out of the packet but once you have aligned it on your face (it gives you angles to align it properly on your face) and just laid back you can feel it working as daft as that sounds. I could feel my cheeks getting plumper and it is really soothing on your skin. The cool gel gently re-hydrates your skin and it did it in all the right places for me even though I have combination/sensitive/oily skin. It says to leave it for 15 minutes but I left it for 20 to get a real feel for the product. After removing the tissue mask, some of the gel remained on my skin but all I did was massage the excess gel into my skin concentrating around my eyes and dry patches on my cheeks.

Sadly my so called “laughter lines” remained around my eyes but my skin was definitely revitalised! My skin felt refreshed, plumped up and had a soft glow but not enough to make it look greasy just fresh.

All in all I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has been out all weekend or even if they have just had a rough night on the town. In my opinion this would be the perfect treat after a long weekend at a festival, say Download Festival for instance. You’ve been in a field for three days filled with food, booze and crap cold or even non existent showers. You’re filled with hangovers, booze and just general dirt, this is a perfect addition to a warm soapy bath and deep cleanse.

I hope you like it as much as I did, don’t forget to leave a comment 🙂

Garnier’s New Moisture Bomb

So What in the F is All of This??

Well…to be honest I don’t actually know either! I guess it all came from my frustration from popular magazines and certain aspects in life that generally ticked me off, so really it is more of my personal rant at the so-called way of life both in publishing, in life and the way of life.

Over the years I found that all fashion/media/society really focuses on is (obviously) the popular things in life and shunning everything that is deemed “wrong” to the idyllic way of everyday life or the popular way of life. Where I live, you are deemed weird if you wear anything other than track suit bottoms with your socks rolled up to your knees and your hair scraped back into a greasy ponytail! Oh and if you’re make up is anything other than orange foundation that finishes at your chin line and tango false tan with six pairs of thick black eye lashes then that’s wrong to! The opposite of that is that everyone wants to look what they call “Glam” (orange faced sack of spuds with blue lipstick and a peel on dress with your nun showing to the world getting out of a car then landing on your face) which believe me they are not! But I’m a rock n roll girl who tried to be a girlie girl for a little while and I just couldn’t do it!

BUT the main reason for me doing this is to possibly create a Lifestyle blog aimed at the Rock n Roll girls (and boys) sharing beauty tips, life tips, peaks into gigs that I might possibly (and I am really trying to) go to and just generally sharing with the world who I am. I am not anybody special but I hate the concept that people think all rock girls whichever they’re genre just slouch around in hoodies, jeans and converse with shit make up (sometimes we generally do) and that we don’t take care of ourselves which to be honest from what I’ve seen online is further from the truth. There is quite a few girls who inspired me as well as myself and I cannot not thank them enough for being beautiful goddesses.

A chef at work said to me “Charlie, you always look like a rock star when you walk in”, I just looked and smiled but thought, yeah you’re damn right and why shouldn’t I?
